Zorro, a half-hour Walt Disney Productions TV series based on the well-known Zorro character, premiered October 10, 1957 on ABC. The final network broadcast was June 2, 1959. Seventy-eight episodes were produced, and 4 hour-long specials were aired on the Walt Disney anthology series between October 30, 1960 and April 2, 1961.

For most of its brief run, Zorro's episodes were part of continuing story arcs, each about thirteen episodes long. The first of these chronicles the arrival of Zorro / Diego and his battle of wits with the greedy and cruel local Commandante, Captain Monastario. After Monastario's final defeat, in the second storyline, Zorro must uncover and counter the machinations of the evil Magistrado Galindo, who is part of a plot to rule California. The third story arc concerns the leader of that conspiracy, the shadowy figure of the Eagle, revealed as vain and insecure José Sebastian Varga. Season one concludes with Varga's death.

In late 1950s, Walt Disney Productions will produce an action series Zorro based on the famous character Zorro. This American TV series was aired on ABC starting 10th October, 1957 and the last broadcast was on June 2, 1959. The total number of episodes was seventy eight with specials of four hours broadcasted on Walt Disney anthology series from October 30, 1960 to April 2, 1961.

The character of Zorro is presented by Don Diego De La Vega played by the actor Guy Williams. Don Diego is a university student in Spain who will have to go back to his home Los Angles in California or earlier called El Pueblo De Nuestra Senora Reina De Los Angeles Sobre El Rio Porciuncula.

The oppression of the Captain Monasterio will come to Diego’s knowledge since his father is calling him back to fight against this tyranny. Don Diego will decide to fight but under his alter ego Zorro. He will conceal his actions and fight with a sword thanks to his fencing back talents that go him many medals in Spain. Mainly Zorro, the other personality of Don Diego, will be in action at night.

Don Diego will play a timid and submissive role while fighting against Monasterio under the personality of Zorro. Therefore, his father will be disappointed by Diego’s inaction. The character is very intelligent and loyal to all his friends and family members, which will show in later episodes.

The name of the original figure in the writings of Johnston McCulley is Diego Vega but it will be changed to Diego De La Vega in the Disney series. Diego’s father, Don Alejandro De La Vega is a very popular ranchero or cattle baron with very high morals and virtues.

He is a very influential person because he was one of the richest in California. Don Alejandro has very vast lands and big cattle in his possession. He is a quick tempered person that may engage in foolish acts by seeking to fight personally. This way, he would endanger his life and sometimes manipulated by others.

One day, he will eventually learn about the true identity of Zorro and will support this all the way. In the movie Zorro’s Black Whip where Zorro is played by a woman featuring Linda Stirling, the actor George J. Lewis is the co-star and he also plays the role of Don Alejandro in the Disney version.
