Malcolm in the Middle is an American sitcom created by Linwood Boomer for the Fox Network. The series was first broadcast on January 9, 2000, and ended its six-and-a-half-year run on May 14, 2006, after seven seasons. The series received critical acclaim and won seven Emmy Awards, one Grammy and was nominated for seven Golden Globes.

The show starred Frankie Muniz as Malcolm, the third-born of four, then five later in the series (six, in the last episode), sons of Lois (Jane Kaczmarek) and Hal (Bryan Cranston). The eldest, Francis (Christopher Masterson), was shipped off to military school, leaving three brothers: Reese (Justin Berfield), Malcolm (Frankie Muniz), Dewey (Erik Per Sullivan) and starting in season four Jamie (James and Lukas Rodriguez in the later seasons) living at home, Malcolm being the middle child still at home (hence the show's title). The show's early seasons centered on Malcolm and the rigors of being an adolescent genius and enduring an eccentric, although eerily normal, life. Later seasons gradually explored the other members of the family and their friends in more depth.

The series was different from many others in that Malcolm broke the fourth wall and talked directly to the viewer; it was shot using a single camera; and it used neither a laugh track nor a live studio audience, just sound effects. Emulating the style of hour-long dramas, this half-hour show was shot on film instead of video. Another unique aspect is that the cold open of every episode is unrelated to the main story. Exceptions were episodes which were the conclusions of "two-parters"; these episodes opened with a summary of part one and Bryan Cranston (Hal) saying "Previously on Malcolm in the Middle" in a humorous manner.

What an amazing DVD Set for the Malcolm in the Middle Fan!

Malcolm in the Middle is the name of a comedy TV series of America, which was produced for Fox Network by Linwood Boomer. First telecasted on the 9th of January, 2000, this series ran for 6.5 years for seven seasons and a total of 151 episodes, to be ended on 14th of May, 2006.

It also won awards including a Peabody Award, a total of 7 Emmy Awards and a Grammy Award, and due to the significant praise it was nominated for 7 Gold Globe Awards. [1]

The series stars Frankie Muniz for the lead role of Malcolm, and consist of a family with six members which increase to 7 later on. Malcolm is a comparatively normal yet genius and intelligent boy and likes being the smart one, but hates taking classes with the gifted kids, since they are mocked with derision as “Krelboynes” by the rest of the students.

Krelboynes is taken after the character, in The Little Shop of Horrors, of Seymour Krelborn. The rest of the family members consist of the strict and domineering mother of Malcolm named Lois and played by Jane Kaczmarek; Hal (Bryan Cranston), the detached but affectionate father of Malcolm; the elder brother Francis (Christopher Masterson) who was, previously, radical and have been shown to be attending a military school in prior episodes, but who, in due course, settles down with a married life and a stable job.

Then comes his other elder brother named Reese and played by Justin Berfield, who is a bully. Although, he takes Malcolm’s side at home, but on the other hand, torments him at school. And, last but not least is Malcolm’s younger brother Dewey (Erik Per Sullivan). The series focused on the life of Malcolm, in the first few season, however, later on the limelight was given to all his family members in the same way.

It is a production of Fox Television Studios, in association with 20th Television, and Satin City. This series received critical acclaim all over the world and has been sold in a total of 57 countries. In America, this series has been syndicated on FX during daytime, while in the night it has been shown on Nick at Nite, and also on other local stations. Whereas, in UK, it telecasts on Sky1 and its HD equal Sky1 HD, also, on Sky2 and Sky3. In Australia, it has been aired on Network Ten, where initially it was aired on Nine Network.

This series focuses on Malcolm and his non-adaptive folks, where the role of Malcolm is played by Frankie Muniz (3rd son out of 5), with his mother Lois (Jane Kaczmarek), father Hal (Bryan Cranston), eldest brother Francis (Christopher Masterson, who, leaving his family and 3 younger brothers, attended military school), Reese (played by Justin Berfield) and Dewey (Erik Per Sullivan).

The fifth son was added to the series in season 4, as Jamie, played by James and Lukas Rodriguez. Early couple of seasons’ paid attention to Malcolm and his odd life, however, later on the rest of the family was brought into focus, including their friends such as Craig Feldspar, Stevie Kenarban and his father Abe.
