Hunter is a police drama television series starring Fred Dryer which ran on NBC from 1984 to 1991. The titular character, Sgt. Rick Hunter, was a wily, physically imposing, and often rule-breaking homicide detective (badge# 089) with the Los Angeles Police Department. Stepfanie Kramer co-starred in the first six of the series' seven seasons as Hunter's female partner Sgt. Dee Dee McCall.

Created by Frank Lupo, the show in its early episodes played as television's answer to Dirty Harry. Even after the show's violence was toned down during the second season in hopes of boosting ratings, Hunter and McCall still managed to resolve many cases the good old-fashioned way, by shooting the perpetrators dead.

The show's executive producer during the first season was noted producer Stephen J. Cannell, whose company produced the series.

Initially placed in a Friday-night slot against the then-popular Dallas (also a Lorimar production), the show struggled to find an audience and drew criticism for its often graphic depiction of violence. In the first season, the producers sought to create a hook by giving the main character a catchphrase, "Works for me", which was sometimes used two or three times an episode and was even tacked on to the end of Mike Post and Pete Carpenter's opening theme music. Several early episodes featured montages set to popular songs from the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s.

â€" Police Drama Series The TV show Hunter was a police drama series featuring Fred Dryer as a sergeant. Also, Rick Hunter and Stepfanie Kramer are playing the role of sergeants. The show will be broadcasted on NBC from 1984 to 1991. In the sixth season, Stepfanie Kramer will leave the show in 1990 for other roles and musical shows.

Therefore, two new females’ officers will be part of the TV show in the seventh season. The character of the sergeant Rick Hunter had a very strong personality and sometimes even breaking the rules in the Los Angeles Police Department.

The TV show was created by Frank Lupo and was also a TV answer for dirty Harry. Hunter and McCall will continue to solve many cases in the second season in order to better their ratings after the show’s violence was low. The executive producer of season one was Stephen J. Cannell and his company also produced the TV show.

The first season lasted from 1984 to 1985. The first episode was broadcasted a Friday night at the same time as Dallas. The TV series could not find spectators easily because of the graphic representation for the violence scenes. Therefore, a phrase was used during the show: Works For me that the main character used to catch the audience attention.

The phrase was used even more than once in an episode and was also repeated during the opening theme music of Pete Carpenter’s and when the Mike Post program ends. In the show, like Miami Vice, there was also the montage of many 1960s 1970s and 1980s popular songs during the episodes.

The TV show did not know any growth in its ratings during the first season. As a result, network chief Brandon Tartikoff was given a private screening for new two-part episode by Cannell. The episode title was “The Snow Queen” and was much appreciated by Tartikoff and will broadcast the series during hiatus waiting for another better time slot. After two months, the TV show Hunter will make appearance again Saturdays nights. The rating will start to rise and will reach 65th place at the end of the first season.

Season two of Hunter will be broadcasted from 1985 till 1986 and this time Cannell will use the services of Roy Huggins who already worked on Maverick and the Rockford Files. He will be the new executive producer of the show and will make some changes to the storylines.

He will reduce the rudeness of character, especially with his superiors, remove the back story about Hunter belonging to the mob, he will also reduce the violence in the show and emphasize on the relationship with McCall. The scenes will also take place in more popular places in Los Angeles instead of back streets.
