Spenser: For Hire was a mystery television series based on Robert B. Parker's "Spenser" novels.

Spenser: For Hire is a mystery/suspense series based on Robert Parker's "Spenser" novels. Spenser, a private investigator living in Boston, gets involved in a new mystery each episode. Using his years of experience, his natural talents for observation and reasoning, and the occasional bit of help from his friend Hawk, Spenser never fails to crack the case.

The series ran on ABC from 1985 to 1988. The two-hour pilot movie was an adaptation of the fourth novel in the book series, Promised Land. The show garnered decent ratings, (however, it was placed against CBS's Falcon Crest and NBC's Miami Vice in its first season), despite frequent time slot changes and occasional preemptions. In the end, all of the location shooting contributed to the show's demise, with cost being cited as one of the reasons why ABC canceled it.

While the show had a loyal following, Parker was disappointed with the final product (though he said it was not the fault of the performers). Urich, however, indicated it was his favorite acting role.

Spenser for Hire DVD complete series collection with all episodes and seasons on DVDs

Spenser for Hire is a mystic TV series that is based on Spenser novels written by Robert B. Parker. This series was made for TV by john Wilder, making some difference from the real novels; casually it was in lesser degree of detail. Similar to many TV detective series, the show was voiced over in first person just same as the novel is written.

The series was on aired on ABC starting from 1985 to 1988. The show earned descent ratings, in spite of regular time slot changes and occasional preemptions. In the end of the series all the location of the shooting contributed to the demise of the show. The location of the shooting mostly in Boston was one of the strong points of the show, revealing all around town, even showing the harsh winters.

While the show has a loyal following, Parker was not happy with the end product although he had said that it was not the fault of the performer. This was an odd as Parker was an assistant on the show. However his indication was his favorite action role. The musician of the series was Steve Dorff and Larry Herbstritt.

Spenser was played by Robert Urich. The other major characters of the series were Hawk, played by Avery Brooks, and Susan Silverman, played by Barbara Stock. In the second season of the show Stock was replaced by Carolyn McCormick as Rita Fiore. Then in the final season of the series Stock returns back, her character having been in San Francisco for a year to try and get over Spenser. The character of Rita Fiore came to an end without any explanation as her predecessor, Susan Silverman, which nearly had at the end of the last season. Spenser alludes to Susan’s vanishes in the starting VO to the episode 2*02 and covers it completely, in the same pattern as in the novel Valediction in the last scene of the episode.

Overall view about this TV series is that it is one of the stories that turns out to be a much watch for many groups of audience who love to watch detective series.
